Heart Beats: A Music Anthology – by various authors (detailed below).

First, I can honestly say this is definitely good value for money and for a good cause as well.

This is definitely one I would recommend people to check out if you like something different, the different stories allow you to lose yourself in many different worlds.

The Trifecta by M.B. Feeney – I love that the first story in the anthology was from MB Feeney, she’s one of my favourite authors. As usual, I was not disappointed. I loved every part of this story that allowed us to share in the special friendship between the trio. This journey begins with them enjoying their last summer together for a little while before they all go off in different directions. The part I loved the most was the bond between the three of them right from the start and how protective Justin and Mikey were of Ella; there is nothing they wouldn’t do to protect her and keep her safe. I’m looking forward to reading the next instalment in this trifecta series.

The end of Promise and Paine by Sam Destiny – I really liked this story. I do love reading music romances; maybe it’s because of my love of music but I can totally immerse myself in them. The author did warn me at the beginning that this story didn’t have a typical happy ending, but I was not prepared for that ending. I didn’t like it and am looking forward to finding out what happens next for Promise and Paine.

The Life and Death of a Rockstar by M.A Foster – This was a short, sweet and very emotional story. It’s an interview that gives you an insight into Rock Legend, Marcus King – front man of Royal Mayhem. It tells his life story in as much detail as you needed for a short story. It was a good read and I think I may have to look into the Heritage Bay Series to find out more about Marcus, Emerson and Jaybird because that little story was not enough for me.

Creed by Amy Davies; Rebel Hype Part 1 – I did enjoy this one, however, I felt that the plot relied a little too much on sex through the whole story.

Club Rife by C.H. Thomas – I really enjoyed this book. I spent some time in Tenerife when I was younger, and I can really picture the scenes. Having spent periods with people that work in the club scene, it was easy to imagine the characters and what the clubs were like, making me completely relate to the goings on. I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to give anything away, but this is definitely a book I can recommend. It tells of lust, fun in the sunshine and holiday romances; it’s worth the read.

Wrath by Lacey Heart – Well, this was a very short story, only giving you the prologue. But it was enough of a teaser to make you want to read what’s next, when the full-length story is released.

Crashing Star by Xana Jordan – Oh my, I did not like how this ended. There was nothing wrong with the story itself, it just ended before I could really get into it, leaving me wanting more which, I guess is the point. I’m looking forward to the book being finished and released so I can find out what happens to Kolton. I am hoping he makes it out of rehab, manages to find Sarah and carries on with his career. I guess only time will tell.

The Alpha’s Star by Aimie Jennison – Shifter stories aren’t really my thing or so I thought but I really enjoyed this story. It might be something I look into a bit further so I can see how Ava gets on with her singing career and what happens between her and Silas.

Opera of the Beast by Lilly Rayman – This was another short shifter story giving you a taster of what’s to come. It was enough to intrigue me into wanting to know if Dante and Raul are brothers like I think they are; separated at birth and how the connection between them both and Harmony would play out.

The Night I Fell For A Popstar by Mandy Bee – I really liked this story. It was light-hearted and simple; a boy meets girl romance. It was nice that you were able to see the normal side of Xander and not the pop star side because so many stories focus on the fame side of things. It was a nice little whirlwind romance that gave you everything you needed to know.

Wager by T.a. McKay – This story left me a bit confused with who was who until towards the end and that took away from the story for me. It was ok, not normally my sort of thing, but I did enjoy it.

A Little Unsteady by Saffron Blu – Wow, this story started with a bang and tells of a bond of friendship so strong that I don’t think anything can break. The deep kind of friendship, where the urge to protect is at the forefront of everything. This is another author I’ve added to my reading list so I can find out what happens next for Darius and Kamil.

Somebody Else’s Song by Avery Hart – I liked this one; it was a story of strength and determination to follow your dreams. To put yourself out there and never give up. I have added this author to my list so I can find out how Everly Rae gets on and whether she achieves her dream or not.

Kill-A-Queen by Bea Stevens – I loved this story right from the start, it had me so hooked that I couldn’t put it down until I finished it. I read the whole thing in one go, finding it exciting and nerve racking at the same time. I even convinced myself that the housekeeper was involved in it towards the end. It was 1:15am when I finally finished the story, that’s how much I enjoyed it.

Marching Offsides by AM Williams – I loved this one – it had your typical nerds, jocks and mean girls that you find in most schools and universities. It was a story of opposites attract and standing up for yourself; as well as standing out and being different from the crowds around you. I could picture the campus, football fields, restaurants and all of the characters, which I find means it’s a good story. It had me engrossed enough to want to picture the surroundings and settings to get a better feeling of the book. I’m glad they stood their ground and didn’t let the bullies win. I will be looking at other books from this author as well.

Strip Down by Ava Manello – This was a sweet humorous short story, with old friendships being rekindled and new friendships forged. It detailed everything you needed to picture the surroundings and characters, enabling you to picture exactly what is going on in each of the chapters.

Park Life by Lucy Felthouse – This was a nice short story about taking chances before it’s too late. I felt really sorry for Dee, that her first encounter with Athena ended the way it did. I’m sure there’s more to their story to be read and I hope things work out for them both.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would like to thank M.B. Feeney for suggesting it to me, I now have a lot more authors on my radar to check out.

One More Shot

Image designed by Robin Peninger

One More Shot is a non-profit charity fundraiser weekend raising money for Cancer charities including Macmillan Cancer Support held at the Ramada Sutton Coldfield.  It’s run by the truly amazing, wonderful and inspirational Rachel Stainrod and her many volunteers/team whom without them Rachel wouldn’t be able to run this amazing event.  Each team member plays a role that ensures the event runs smoothly for everyone.  Last year’s event raised £5,000 in total.

Last year was the 5th year the event has been running and it included amazing artists like, Christian Kane, Riley Smith, Henri O’Connor, Jonah Dolan, Gary Quinn, Stewart Mac and Dean Roberts, Kyshona Armstrong and Guy Jones.  Previous events have included many more artists over the years.

The first event included Steve Carlson, Gary Quinn, Matthew Huff, & The Final Wish (Emad Aleaddin & Natasha Dahdaleh).

Christian Kane, Riley, Henri & Jonah joined onboard from OMS2 onward. Riley had his protege Joshua Forrest Payne accompany him in 2015.  Other artists have included Jenn Bostic and Matt Lande.

Gary Quinn has attended and supported all 5 events so far and is set to return to OMS6 next year, along with Christian Kane and as announced last night on their livestream Stewart Mac and Dean Roberts will be joining them again. I can’t wait to find out who else is gong to be attending next year.

I’ve only personally been to two of these events but each one was amazing and well worth the money, there are gigs, meet and greets, Q&A sessions, autograph sessions and merchandise on sale.  I’ve made some great new friends since attending my first one more shot event.

I initially went to my first OMS in 2018 purely for Christian Kane but went back again last year for everyone else. 2018 was the first time I’d seen Christian sing live and I wasn’t disappointed, although I will admit I was quite nervous when it came to meeting him for the very first time at the meet and greet but he was such a lovely, friendly guy that my nervousness didn’t last long.  I always told myself I would only attend the one event and once I’d met Christian that would be enough; I was wrong and am now hooked and will attend for as long as I’m able to do so.

All the artists that I’ve met at one more shot have been lovely, friendly, welcoming and incredibly down to earth.  The autograph sessions and meet and greets were so much fun and I’ve expanded my music library with so many new artists and music since that first weekend, music that I love to listen to over and over again and remember how much fun I had during the event.

I am currently saving for the next event in April 2021 and can’t wait to do it all again with lots of fun and lots of good music. There is so much love and support for this event that has brought so many people together.

I got this quote from event organiser Rachel Stainrod.  “I’m grateful to Christian as he was my inspiration in creating OMS.  I’m still overwhelmed by the artists support but also the attendees.  It truly amazes me how a little idea blossomed into a family.  Music is & always has been my lifeline.  I would never have been able to cope with life if not for music.”

If you’ve never been to a One More Shot event then you don’t know what you’re missing out on, I strongly recommend that you do.

Thank you to Rachel and her team for all of your efforts and hard work to bring this event and everyone together, you truly are an inspiration to so many.

Something To Believe In – Stewart Mac

Well where do I start, I mean what’s not to love about this album by an incredibly talented man. Not counting the Live Album from the Trio Tour this is the latest album from Stewart Mac and it’s every bit as awesome as all the others he has released if not more so.

I first heard of Stewart Mac at an amazing event called One More Shot in April 2018 in the UK – I will share more about OMS in a separate post so you can see for yourself how amazing it is.  From the moment I met Stewart and heard him sing, I knew he was going to become a big part of my music library.  Listening to his music and attending his gigs has opened my options up to so much more and so many new friends, it’s amazing, and I will be forever grateful to him for that.

The very first song on the album gets you moving, and the song title seems quite apt at this moment in time.  State of The Union is a very catchy and toe tapping tune, you have to listen to the words to really appreciate the song in full but it’s definitely worth a listen.

Not giving up is the next song and it has such a deep meaning to it; to me it tells a story of the strength to carry on through whatever obstacles might be standing in your way in life.  It’s a message many of us can do to listen to, and one I have used with my friends many times.

Something to Believe In is not a typical love song but in my opinion is one in its own kind of way; it tells of someone who is determined to make things work and promises of making it all worthwhile even though things might not be perfect all the time.

Everyday is a very catchy song and – from what I’ve seen at gigs – even has its own dance.  To me it’s about being so in love with someone that you just can’t let go of and asking for a second chance; not wanting to let go and just wanting to be loved.  It’s a very catchy and enjoyable song.

Better of Alive is about being accepted for who you are and having someone around who cares; it’s about someone helping to build you back up and giving you a reason to carry on.

Although Radio has been on another album, this version of it is amazing. I know this one is a fan favourite at gigs; it brings everyone together singing and dancing along with him.  Another catchy tune that you just can’t help toe tapping to, if you’re not already up dancing while listening to it.

I can’t really tell you what my favourite song is on this album because they’re all awesome and I like them all for very different reasons.  Radio was the perfect song to finish the album off with.

This album is one that is regularly on play on my iPod or in my car, it’s a go-to album when you need cheering up and is one that I will continue to listen to over and over again for many years to come.

I cannot wait to see what’s next from this very talented singer, I’m sure I won’t be disappointed at all.

If you haven’t already listened to it; then what are you waiting for go and do it now, you’ll be glad you did and won’t look back.

What She Deserves – Clare Bentley

A book involving domestic abuse is not one I would probably pick to read but as soon as I picked it up I was hooked.  I’d seen a few posts and teasers about the book so naturally had to check it out once it came out, I needed to follow Kaidence’s journey and find out what happened in the end.

I wasn’t disappointed one bit, not that I thought I would be.  I think I felt every reaction possible while reading the book, I went through anger, fear, disgust, happiness, sadness, surprise, shock and contempt.  I had admiration at her strength and will to survive, but there were many times I wanted her to just run away from him for what he was doing to her but I know it’s not always that easy when they have a hold on you.  I was also hoping that someone would give Mitchell a good beating for what he was doing to her and would have loved to have done it myself.

There were parts of the book that made me laugh and there were also parts that made me cry and in my opinion a book that can elicit that many emotions and responses is a very good book indeed.

I found this book was very well written and you can tell that this story took many years to manifest into what it is now, a lot of care and emotion was put into the writing of the book.  It seemed like the situation was very well researched with procedures that could be put into place and experiences that are suffered, I can imagine that his book had a personal story somewhere behind it and could have been very hard to write.  That all being said it was written well and I am glad I got to read it.

I recommend people read this book even if you think it’s not what you would normally go for because you will be surprised at how much you really enjoy it.  I cannot wait to see what’s next in line from this new up and coming author.  Well done Clare on your first self published booked, you should be proud of yourself and hopefully it will give you encouragement to continue on with your writing because you definitely have a talent that you’ve obviously been hiding away.

Girl in Trouble – Stacy Clafflin

So I decided to read something different this time, I’ve been reading romance books from the very start of my blog and decided to change it up a bit, I was not disappointed in this change.

No one was harder on Alex Mercer than himself, he’s feels like a failure as a Father, a son and a friend but when it came down to it he stepped up when he needed to.

This story had me hooked right from the minute Ariana was taken, it followed all of the characters perfectly as they all fought to find the missing girl.

I liked the fact that it changed from character to character allowing you to live the nightmare through each individual person and to find out a bit more about each of them.

It was a story full of fear, love, hate, heartbreak and determination, and brought out many emotions in me while I was reading it.

I will admit to yelling at Alex a few times for being an idiot and trying to do things on his own but no one really knows what was going through his head at the time and seeing as he’d been through it before with his sister I’m sure he had many emotions going through his head and he probably wasn’t thinking straight.

I can recommend this to anyone who wants to read a bit of a thriller, the only problem I have with this book is that there are 8 other books in the series that I’ve now had to add to my wish list.  I’m sure there will be more reviews on these books because I’m really looking forward to reading them all at some point.

Dean Roberts – One Night Live – The Water Rats London 08/02/2020.

Wow, what an awesome night, considering this was his first solo gig Dean absolutely smashed it and knocked it right out of the ballpark.  I heard a few people mention that his voice wasn’t back to 100% but you really wouldn’t have known it at all and as usual he didn’t disappoint.

First up of the evening was the ever-talented Guy Jones supported by the very talented Alex Condliffe.  It was nice to see him after his small break.  He got the audience nicely warmed up and as usual he silenced the audience with his rendition of hallelujah.

Dean ignited the room with his energy and passion for the songs; he did covers and original songs from his debut EP.  He had the crowd jumping and singing along with him right from the very start of the gig and carried on entertaining everyone right through to the end.

Dean had a lot of back up and support while on stage; his right hand man Matt Pearce did him justice and Ally McLachlan, Ashley Cutler and Chris Allan were amazing as usual.  Dean was joined on stage by Rachael Hawnt who lent her amazing voice to a couple of songs.  Rachael is part of the band Great Scott along with Ashley Cutler.

You can easily see the connection Dean has with his fans by the way he interacts with them while on stage.  There was one part in the show while he was singing stuck in the middle where he pointed to a member of the audience so I assume there is a story in there somewhere but it seemed to go down well with the crowd in front of him.

It was a fantastic evening  where you could see people had come from far and wide to listen to amazing music; to support a great man and to meet up with friends for lots of good fun, drinks and lots and lots of laughter.  The vibe at the venue was very friendly and welcoming and I can honestly say that Dean has a fabulous group of fans and should be very proud of them, I’m sure they are of him.

I can honestly say that I cannot wait until his next solo gig and I hope we won’t have too long to wait.  If you missed this gig then you certainly missed a treat because his voice was amazing, the songs were fantastic and the evening as a whole was a complete success in my opinion.

Recipe for Romance – Lara Van Hulzen

This is the first book of 4 in the Marietta St Claire series and follows the story of Wes St Claire a rich businessman who finds himself thrown into a situation by his father that puts him outside of his comfort zone.

A friend suggested I check this one out, so I downloaded it from Amazon and got to reading it straight away.  It was a typical boy meets girl romance filled with awkward moments, funny moments and most of all romantic moments.  I loved this book from start to finish, it allowed me to immerse myself into their lives and surroundings; I know Marietta is a fictional town but it came alive in this story and made me want to visit, despite the cold and snow, I’m not a fan of snow but I think the landscapes would be beautiful.  That’s the sign of a good book; if it allows you to picture a place that doesn’t really exist and make it your own.

I really enjoyed this book, I loved reading about Wes squirm while trying to figure out how to bake, something he had never done in his life due to his privileged upbringing but he gave it a try so you have to give him points for that.

I felt for the characters; for the pain and loss they’d been through in their lives, but I also loved how they pulled themselves back from it and carried on with your lives.

Not only was this a book about finding love it was also about personal growth and the main characters finding themselves and finding what they really wanted in life and then striving to achieve their end goal.

Wes and Noelle came from completely different backgrounds, but they got on like a house on fire right from the very beginning.  Noelle liked to tease Wes; something that he wasn’t used to in the usual circles he travelled in, but he wasn’t offended by any of it; he actually found it refreshing.

If you’re looking for a story that you can lose yourself in and allow you to enter into the lives of the characters imagining what the town, buildings and characters look like then this one is definitely a must read for you.

I will be downloading the other 3 books in the series so I can follow the lives of the other St Claire siblings to find out more about these characters that were touched upon in the book but deserve exploring further, I’m sure I won’t be disappointed and will update you all on the other stories in due course.

Dean Roberts – One Night Only 8th Feb 2020

I know this isn’t an actual review but I promised a friend I would put a post up to remind everyone that this amazing singer has a one night only gig coming up on the 8th February 2020 at The Water Rats 328 Grays Inn Rd, London WC1X 8BZ.

You really won’t be sorry for purchasing a ticket to what is bound to be an awesome evening. Not only does Dean have an amazing voice but he is an all round genuine person who loves spending time with his fans. When you get to know him you;ll be hooked and won’t look back. Get your tickets here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/dean-roberts-one-night-live-tickets-81800329989

Check Dean out for yourself if you’re not sure, once you’ve heard him sing you’ll be convinced to purchase a ticket. I can guarantee you that you will also make new friends along the way as well. This is my favourite song of Deans for many reasons and I know it has touched many hearts and brought on some tears too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_C2gV3poDFM

It would be awesome if Dean’s first gig was a complete sell out, OK I will admit that there is an ulterior motive for wanting the gig to sell out but most of all Dean deserves his first solo gig to be a smash.

I for one am looking forward to seeing him live and will definitely be posting a review once the gig is over.

So don’t just listen to me, go check him out yourself and then head on over and grab yourself some tickets, also tell all your friends too so they don’t miss out.

If you can’t make it to the gig but want a piece of Dean history you can also purchase one of his King of Wing T-Shirts along with many other merchandise options on his website store. https://deanrobertsmusic.co.uk/index.php/product/king-of-wing-tee/?v=79cba1185463

Whiskey Rebellion – Liliana Hart.

This isn’t the normal kind of book I would go for and it took me a little while to get into it but after a little while; my god I couldn’t put it down.

I can’t believe just how unlucky Addison was, if there was something to trip over or fall from, she found it.  How she managed to make it to the end of the book without breaking something or having a serious accident was beyond me.

I loved how sassy and sarcastic Addison was and despite her bad luck with many things she always seemed to come out fighting.

The characters and surroundings were described perfectly enough for me to imagine what they all looked like down to the dripping holes in her dilapidated flat.  Typical small-town America where everyone knows everyone and everything, but it also had its little charms that made me want to visit for myself.

I’m hoping the next book in the series continues the relationship between Addison and Nick as I would like to see where that goes and if they finally get their act together.

It was a very entertaining light-hearted fun read that I would definitely recommend to others.  I can’t wait to read the other stories in the series to find out what Addison gets up to next.

Comeback Queen – Sam Coe

It took a few songs for me to get into the album but after a few I really started to enjoy it.  The more I listened to it the more I liked it.  Sam is not only beautiful, but she has an amazing voice.

As I went from song to song my favourite song kept changing, I think I changed my mind at least 3 times, which can only attest to what a good album it really is.

My overall favourite was Burnt out which I felt I could relate to quite a bit, before hearing that track it was Hard Time and I really enjoyed the video on You Tube for that one too.  My other favourites were Bonfire and Merry go Round.

Admittedly I listened to the album initially while there were other things going on, so I made sure I listened to it a few times before posting my review.  I listened with headphones in after that to make sure I’d given myself ample time to take all the songs and lyrics in properly and to make sure I was certain on which were my favourites so I didn’t go changing my mind again.

I thought Comeback queen had a little bit of a slow rock feel to it.  Devil Don’t Care was a definite fast paced toe tapper, I can imagine I would be quite worn out after trying to dance along to this track.  I liked the simplicity of In the Moments, giving you the opportunity to just listen to the lyrics and Sam’s beautiful voice.   Concrete tells a story of never giving up or letting people keep you down.  I loved the power in Sam’s voice on Bonfire, it was amazing.  I actually got up and had a little dance around the kitchen while listening to Hard Time, so it must be good if it got me moving.  I loved Cruel and listening to the words I’m sure many of us have felt that way before.  Burnt Out as I said above was my favourite it was relatable and not a typical love song.

I definitely recommend you check this album out and Sam’s other music too, you won’t be disappointed.  I’ve posted some links below to help you find your way to her.  Enjoy everyone.
